Some major news out of Halifax County. Officials there have just ended a standoff between a young man and his parents.
Sheriff Jeff Frasier tells us that around 5:30 Saturday morning 23 year old Justin Braddy shot his father in the elbow, and then held him and his mother captive all day long. The Highway Patrol, sheriff's deputies, and the State Bureau of Investigations all responded to the scene in Hobgood on South Poplar Street. The mother managed to escape on her own, but deputies say after numerous failed attempts to contact Justin and talk him down peacefully, at 8 p.m. Saturday the SBI Special Response Team shot tear gas into the house and recovered the father and Justin without injury. Justin Braddy was charged with assault with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, communicating threats, and assault on a government officer.
The father was treated and released from a local hospital. Deputies say this all may have started over a dispute between Justin and his father from Friday.
