Was It Worth $10 Million to Move a Coastal Inlet?

Town officials say they are already seeing positive results after moving a coastal inlet. They say sand is building up naturally, closing off the old channel and boaters are finding a safer trip through the new inlet, based on a drop in the number of emergency calls the Coast Guard has seen this Summer. Still, it will take longer for the whole benefit to be seen from the project. All this dredging is paying off in another way too: more protection from future storms and hurricanes as the sand placed on the beachfront builds up and migrates West when the channel fills in.
