The North Carolina Education Lottery says its new daytime numbers drawing is off to a good start.
The lottery began a second daily "Carolina Pick 3" on Monday afternoon. The game started in October 2006 with a drawing at night. The game's top prize is $500.
Lottery executive director Tom Shaheen said the midday drawing helped increase ticket sales for the "Pick 3" game by 30 percent compared to last Monday, or 15 percent above the record for that day of the week.
Shaheen said Tuesday that lotteries in other states generally have seen a 5 percent to 9 percent increase following the introduction of a midday drawing.
The midday drawing is held at 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The evening drawing happens nightly at 11:22 p.m.
