Two people, two dogs and a bird were rescued today from their sinking boat near the mouth of the Neuse River.

The Coast Guard says the 28-foot vessel Linger White began taking on water and radioed in that they were abandoning ship.

Rescued were James and Carol Warren of Oviedo, Florida, along with their pet poodle, a Jack Russel Terrier and a lovebird named "Babe".

A C-130 crew from Elizabeth City sighted the two boaters who were then sitting on top of the overturned vessel's hull. They remained until a rescue crew from the Hobucken station arrived.
