Harrier Jet Crashes In Pamlico County

What caused a Harrier jet from the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point to crash near Hobucken in Pamlico County Thursday afternoon? That's what Marine investigators are trying to figure out. About 50 Marines were joined by other agencies to search for the plane's wreckage in the pouring rain. The pilot of the AV8B Harrier jet ejected from the plane just after 6 p.m. Some are wondering if a mechanical problem caused a failure of the jet's system. The pilot's name will not be released until the investigation is completed. He was able to parachute to safety and was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
