The Plight of the Plover Shuts Down Another Area Along the Outer Banks

The National Park Service says they were following federal mandates under the Endangered Species Act, when they shut down the Hatteras Island Spit a few weeks ago to protect a couple of Piping Plover chicks. That area is the second most popular shorefishing spots on the Outer Banks. Thursday's abrupt closure of Cape Point stuck hard in the hearts of die-hard fishermen. Some businesses are even taking hits as the plight of the plover takes precedence over fun, money and surf.
