A fallen soldier from Tarboro is one of the men who pushed the death toll in Iraq to more than four thousand American soldiers who have died in the war.
Family and friends are grieving, remembering Sergeant David Williams known as Blake. He was a member of the North Carolina National Guard. The 26 year old Tarboro native died on Saturday when his vehicle was the target of an improvised explosive device. Williams graduated from Tarboro High School in 2000. One of his loves was the game of baseball. His jersey now hangs in the dugout at the Tarboro High School baseball stadium.
Williams was based in Rocky Mount. This was his second tour in Iraq. Friends say he was a very kind and happy person who was engaged to be married. He leaves behind a mother and a sister.
