A Marine Corps Harrier pilot was able to eject from his AV-8-B Harrier jet, before that plane crashed in Pamlico County Thursday night. It happened along highway 304, about one mile South of the Hobucken high bridge. A witness spotted the Harrier on fire and then spotted the pilot's parachute who had ejected. The "Pedro" rescue helicopter was able to pick up the pilot and flew him back to Cherry Point. Cherry Point officials say that pilot was treated at the naval hospital. The Harrier is a major Marine attack jet and has had a troubled past of mechanical problems and crashes. Accident investigators are on their way to that site.
