Ag-Mart Produce Inc. has settled a lawsuit with a farmworker couple whose baby was born without limbs after the mother worked in the company's tomato fields in North Carolina and Florida.
Harry Costello, an outside spokesman who represents Ag-Mart, said the company had not decided whether to comment on the confidential agreement. The couple's lawyer announced the settlement Monday.
The couple allege they worked for the Ag-Mart before and during the woman's pregnancy.
They and other workers testified the company sprayed pesticides while they were working in the fields. They also said managers did not wait sufficient time after spraying before sending workers back into the fields.
