Preparing for the Worst

It was a bio-terrorism drill testing the skills of health professionals and law enforcement in Pitt County Wednesday. The drill simulated how the county would react to an outbreak of Bubonic Plague. The event, which took place at Welcome Middle School, focused on getting medication to people not yet feeling symptoms of the disease. Officials say training for bio-terrorism is necessary, even in Eastern North Carolina. The drill was a join effort between the Pitt County Health Department, Pitt County Memorial Hospital, and the sheriff's department.
