Sex In The Statehouse

They were only half-joking at the state Capitol when observers said former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer had to be the only guy in Albany who paid for sex.

It's an open secret that there is a lot of fooling around at the New York statehouse. And at other statehouses, too.

Up until just a few years ago, New York lawmakers would go "window shopping" for interns at the start of every legislative session. The eager young people would be corralled at a newsstand so legislators could pick their help based on looks, not resumes.

A former district attorney in Albany says, "Unfortunately, many of the people who seek public office are flawed people to begin with." Paul Clyne says the environment in Albany "just tends to bring that out."
