Car Versus Train

Video will be available shortly.

A collision between a train and a car in Craven County is sparking debate over railroad safety. The accident happened Tuesday afternoon on Old Highway 70 in Cove City. State Highway Patrol says 18-year old Geoffrey Whaley of Cove City failed to stop at the tracks and was hit by the train. Whaley was ejected from the vehicle and flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital. Nearby residents have been complaining the crossing doesn't have flashing lights or a mechanical arm to stop traffic. State Highway Patrol says there are white stripes on the road, which mean motorists need to stop.
