Last year, it was a scramble getting visitors off Ocracoke Island as Hurricane Alex surprised many parts of the Outer Banks. A scramble and caught off guard because ferries, the only way to get on and off the island, were overloaded due to tourists being evacuated at the last minute. County officials had a meeting today to go over emergency evacuation plans.
