Remains Identified

It's been nearly two years, finally, the identity of remains unearthed in the Pitt County town of Ayden in 2003 is now known.

State investigators believe the remains are those of Georgia resident Donald Fitzgerald Brown. He would have been 38 years old Friday. Authorities say Brown was living in Greenville in 2002, doing contract work for a cable company.

He was reported missing June 13 of that year. Construction workers discovered his remains while clearing land off Highway 102 in August a year later. The sheriff's department says evidence at the scene leads them to believe Brown was shot to death.
