Lining Up for Jets

Video will be available shortly.

It could mean tens of millions of dollars for Carteret County. That's why North Carolina political leaders are lining up to move dozens of fighter jets from Virginia to bases in the Carolinas. Congressman Walter B. Jones has asked the Base Realignment and Closure Commission to consider moving all of Oceana Naval Air Station's FA-18 Hornets to Marine Corps' Cherry Point in Havelock and Beaufort, South Carolina. Two squadrons of FA-18 jets are already slated for Cherry Point in 2007. Governor Easley and Senator Elizabeth Dole have written the BRAC commission asking for at least four squadrons for Cherry Point if Oceana closes.
