The University of North Carolina Coastal Studies Institute officially opened its new lab on the Outer Banks Wednesday. The research station will assist local colleges with their coastal and environmental studies. Studies include wave dynamics, underwater weather, and the tracking of bacterial breakouts in our sounds. The town of Nags Head heavily renovated a vacant one-time medical complex and is leasing it to the Coastal Studies Institute, which has had to contract its lab work out over the last two years.
