Mayor Shirley Frankiln said it was a tornado that hit the city of Atlanta Friday night, damaging the Georgia Dome and CNN Tower.
The storms affected several SEC men's college basketball games, delaying one and canceling another.
The Mayor, speaking early this morning, said officials were quick to respond to the storm.
"We had our fire chief, our fire department, our fire and rescue department as well as our police chief, our parks departments and our public works department all working together so that we can respond, so that we can assure that people are safe. And we are doing everything in our power to respond to what we now know is a tornado that came through," said Mayor Franklin.
Authorities will be out today, determining if the damage was indeed caused by a tornado.
