Fire Department Not Soliciting Funds

The Greenville Fire Department is warning some residents about a supposed fundraiser in its honor. City officials say solicitors are going door-to-door asking for money claiming it will help the Greenville Fire Department or Fire Rescue by paying for training and for firefighters uniforms, which the city says is not true. According to officials, the city already pays for those items with taxpayers dollars. City officials say the group doing the soliciting is the Greenville Professional Firefighters Association, a labor organization, which has helped out in the past, but at this point its unclear where the donated money is going. Greenville officials say Greenville Fire/Rescue and the city of Greenville are not in any way, shape, or form involved in or supportive of this solicitation effort.
