While the Riverwalk Festival drew crowds to the city of Jacksonville, the Pungo River in Beaufort County gathered sailors to the docks of Belhaven for the 7th Annual Pirates on the Pungo Regatta.
The Pungo District Hospital Foundation fundraiser pits sailors in vessels in a number of races, like boats at least 20 feet long, and even small dingy races. Racing got underway around 11 Saturday morning. The organization raises funds to help fill in the financial gap at the Pungo District Hospital.
The foundation raised nearly 20,000 dollars during last years regatta.
