A Wilson mom charged with the February death of her newborn daughter went in front of the judge Friday morning for her first court appearance. And she was visibly surprised when the judge read the charge. Jennifer Lee Bedgood stood alone without an attorney, in shackles, Friday morning in Wilson, as the judge informed her of her rights and explained the charge of first degree murder. Bedgood told the judge she didn't have an attorney and wanted one appointed to her case. Bedgood was arrested after the autopsy report showed her baby, Bethany Dakoda Harris, died as a result of inadequate care following a premature birth at a Wilson home and because her mother, Jennifer, used cocaine during pregnancy.
