Third Recent OBX Drowning

An Elizabeth City man drowned on the Outer Banks while attempting to save his family from the ocean over the weekend. Clyde "Chuck" Chesson Junior, 42 years old, drowned in Kitty Hawk Friday while trying to assist his struggling wife and daughter. Ocean rescue officials report going into the water around 3:30 p.m. to help a woman and her child in the surf, when they noticed Chesson about 25 yards out, caught in a deep rip current and yelling for help. When lifeguards reached him, Chesson was still conscious, but his condition deteriorated during the rescue, and he was unable to be revived on shore. It's the third drowning on the Outer Banks in just over a month.
