Radio Guys Ham up the Airwaves

Video will be available shortly.

Before the cellular phone or voice mail, but just after the cup and string, there was ham radio.

And Saturday a celebration of sorts got underway to highlight the hobby. The 24 hour contest for radio champions and Greenville's Area Hamers were talking it up Saturday for the National American Radio Relay League Ham Radio Field Day. The annual contest of talking and tapping is an event that engages amateur radio users in drills that display to the country their technique of morse code talking and their skills in lat defense communication.

The annual exercise began Saturday at 2 p.m. and runs an entire 24 hours until Sunday at two.
