Dad Accused of Stuffing 11-Month-Old Into Suitcase

Jacksonville police late Tuesday charged a father with attempted murder, for allegedly putting an 11-month-old inside a suitcase. Police say Matthew Latchison is accused of holding the child upside down over a toilet and then putting the 11-month-old girl into a suitcase and tried to leave his residence during a dispute with his wife in May. That woman, a Marine, was able to free the child but reported the incident to her command at New River Air Station, who handed over the case to Onslow County Social Services and Jacksonville police. Late Tuesday, detectives filed attempted murder charges against Latchison, who is being held without bond in Onslow County's jail.
