Another Chance at Changing Minds

State leaders say North Carolina will get another opportunity to be heard concerning the "Base Realignment And Closure," or BRAC recommendations. In a speech to a New Bern Rotary Club, Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue said state leaders from North Carolina, South Carolina and West Virginia will meet in Charlotte on June 28 with several of the BRAC commissioners. There the states will be able to have their cases heard as to why some of the recommendations should not be made. In our area, Perdue says she plans to fight to keep the hundreds of civilian jobs that could be lost at Cherry Point's Air Depot.
