Domestic Violence Is a Huge Problem in North Carolina

The North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence says the Tarheel state is the sixth worst in the country when it comes to domestic violence cases. Last year, 81 people were killed in the state as a result of domestic violence. Nationwide, one out of every four women is likely to be abused by a partner in her lifetime. And one woman is beaten by her husband or partner every 15 seconds in the United States.

Most counties have domestic violence shelters when you can turn for help. You can also call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE. The North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault is located in Raleigh. You can reach the coalition at 1-888-737-CASA. You can also call Safe Horizon’s Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-621-HOPE.
