Embarrassing Mistake Discovered After 16 Years

It's an embarrassing mistake that's been around for the last 16 years, and nobody noticed it until last week. The seven-foot monument honoring the veterans at the Greenville Town Common shows emblems of the five United States military services. But the Latin mottoes for the Marines and the Coast Guard are wrong. For the Marines it should say "Semper Fidelis," but says Semper Fider. The Coast Guard emblem should say "Semper Paratus," but says Semper Haratus. Now talks of making the corrections are in the works. Gus Keys, the leader of the Veterans of Foreign War Post home 7032 in Greenville says changes in the two emblems will be completed before Veteran's Day.
