A New Bern man has been ordered by city officials to stop building a three story garage in the downtown historic district.
City planning officials say this is because of a discrepancy in the structures height. Bill Hughes says he was told that even though he already had siding on the two car garage and it met city requirements, he would have to wait and see if he could continue building. The historic preservation committee says it's received complaints about the structure. The garage is 31 feet tall.
City planning officials say continued construction may weigh on whether the height parameters in the permits issued match the actual height of the garage.
