Currituck County prepared for the worst, during a role playing exercise in terrorist response recently. Emergency managers from every county in the Northeast, as well as state and federal law enforcement, tested the strengths and weaknesses of the region during multiple mock disasters. Currituck County drilled for a dirty bomb disaster involving school children, enlisting aid from other counties, each of which dealt with their own internal situations, like a river fire in Hertford and a tanker accident on the Outer Banks. Local officials considered the drill a nice warm up heading into hurricane season, where some of the exact same networking could be used this summer.
