For young and old, it's a summer pastime which for many began this weekend, taking a dip at the local swimming pool. But how young is too young to enjoy the water? Lifeguards say there is no set age for kids to begin swimming by themselves, but parents and guardians play a key role in deciding if their child can handle being in the water by themselves. The pool manager for Gold's Gym in Greenville says lifeguards get to know the swimming ability of kids who come to the pool nearly everyday, but that's not the case for others. Just remember, every pool has their own posted rules, and many places may not have a lifeguard on duty.
