Drills Help Bertie County Prepare

Sirens, flashing lights, and an explosion.

Emergency Management officials in Bertie County were out in full force conducting a countywide mock disaster drill Saturday morning. The Sheriff's Department as well as several area police, fire and rescue squads took part. The exercise is required in return for the county receiving Homeland Security grant money.

A state hazmat team, one of only four in the state, that's based in Williamston also took part in the exercise.
