A fire spread from a storage barn to a mobile home early Tuesday morning. Crews responded to a fully engulfed farm at 6905 Highway 43 South. That location is south of Greenville but not quite to Chicod.
Fire crews say while they were fighting the fire in the barn, the flames spread to the mobile home where a family lives. They had time to escape into the cold February air.
Crews say they were able to put the fire all the way out and were careful to make sure all hot spots were out. The barn and mobile home that caught fire are very close to a wooded area, and crews were concerned about wayward embers sparking a forest fire.
There is no word what started the fire in the barn.
