Martin County Deals With More Fires Monday

Fire officials in Martin County had their hands full fighting fires Monday and Sunday, some in residential areas.

Nine different fire and rescue crews came together to help put out the flames.

The biggest fire burned about fifteen acres in Free Union in Jamesville. One vacant house was burned. Crews were out spraying down the area Monday. There also was another fire near Hamilton. A woman was burning trash in a barrel when the flames got out of control.

Fire and forestry officials say 23 acres of land burned and that no one was injured even though many of the fires were in residential communities.

As a member of a local rescue squad I know first hand what a big heart all the citizens have here in Martin County. The fire/rescue departments from all over the county all came together just a few weeks ago with a benefit lunch for a man who died, leaving a wife and children behind. The quarreling comunities came together and held a TREMENDOUS fundraisier. Why can't we come together on other issues too?

I was one of the fire fighters there on Sunday. Are people that ignorant to burn garbage on a day with high winds use your head. Peoples houses where in danger but the fast acting of JFD, BGFD, GTFD, WFD and forestry knocked it out. The long list of thanks we received from JFD were appreciated.
