Emanuel Pigford heard his dogs barking and went into his backyard to check it out. When he did, Kinston police say he was surprised by his neighbor, 41-year-old Thomas Sutton, who then slashed his throat. The incident happened on East Shine Street. Lawmen say Sutton was there hiding from police after being involved in a domestic dispute incident at his home. Pigford was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.
