A mother was shot by a carjacker, who took off in her car with the baby inside. The vehicle was then found a few blocks away, the baby fatally shot.
It happened in Gary, Indiana Monday night.
Police say the mother was buckling her baby into his car seat when a man approached. She was shot, then the suspect drove away in her SUV with the baby in the back.
Minutes later, the vehicle was found a few blocks away with the 13-month-old strapped in his car seat. He was shot in the head and pelvis.
The mother, Kwana Shaw, is listed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police say the baby's father may have been involved but may not be the trigger man. He has not been charged but remains in the custody of Gary Police on unrelated charges.
