The superintendent of the Bertie County School system is speaking out after auditors turn up what they call some questionable spending.
Superintendent John Smith is taking exception with the audit, denouncing what auditors call questionable spending on travel costs, automobiles, cell phones and credit cards. As for the schools 19 vehicles the audit calls unusually high, Smith says the district will get rid of 10 vehicles. And the cellphones issued to positions the audit says doesn't require them? Smith says that too will be reviewed.
