NC Congressman Votes Against President's Stimulus Plan

A North Carolina congressman was one of just 35 who voted against a $146 billion economic stimulus package.

Republican Representative Howard Coble said he voted Tuesday
against the package because it merely applies a bandage to a
serious problem that requires a stronger remedy. Coble said he also
opposed the bill because there were no hearings since it was
adopted under suspension of the rules.

The final vote was 385-35, with 10 Democrats and 25 Republicans
voting against it. One representative voted "present."

The package would speed rebates of $600-$1,200 to most

It still must pass the Senate, where Democrats and some
Republicans are backing a different package.

Tell Congressman Burr that he's out of touch. The refund for my kid's kids is cash in hand to use for what THEY want to use it for. Just how much would THEY have to spend to save $1200 in tax free purchases. Just an idea on that. To save $1200(not counting the refund they'll get for each child), they would have to spend $20,000(at 6% sales tax) in Burr's grace period and MY kids don't have $20,000 to spend. But, big business would have that and so would the rich. They benefit the most from Burr's proposal. Again, let's help the rich get richer. No way BURR !!! My kids have doctor, school, and debt to pay off and Bush's proposal give them help. Believe me that money will be spent and the economy will benefit. Burr's way only benefit Burr's constituents in the business world and the rich and that money probably winds up in somebody's pockets. It wouldn't end up in mine.
