Saturday morning around 7:10 am, the Pinetops Police Department responded to 104 North Third Street in Pinetops. Officers say they found William C Steadman Junior at the residence. After speaking with Steadman officers determined that 83 year old, Francis Steadman, his mother, had been assaulted. Mrs. Steadman was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where she was listed in critical condition. 43 year old William Steadman has since been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill. Steadman has been placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a 200,000 dollar bond.
