Mother Breaks Down in Courtroom

An emotional start to a two-year-old murder trial in Onslow County, as the victim's mother breaks down in court. The case started in September 2002, in a Jacksonville parking lot. That's where several eyewitnesses saw 23-year-old Victor Perez crash his car into another, then get out and shoot Frankie Rodriguez, Junior in broad daylight. But, as testimony began Wednesday in Perez's first-degree murder trial, the victim's mother reportedly broke down sobbing inside and outside the courtroom. Judge Charles Henry called a recess, and then asked jurors if they could disregard that outburst and continue hearing that case. All jury members said yes, and testimony in that case resumed this morning. Perez' attorney is claiming self-defense in that fatal shooting.
