The Doc Watson re-trial got underway Monday in Washington with jury selection. Attorneys spent the day in a Beaufort County courtroom asking a panel of potential jurors whether they could be fair and impartial. This is trial number two concerning the alleged rape of a Chocowinity Middle School employee back in July of 2003. Doc Watson is charged with first degree rape and felony larceny. His first trial last year ended in a mistrial with ten jurors voting guilty and two voting not guilty. District Attorney Seth Edwards says a jury of seven men and five women, three black, nine white, has been selected. Opening statements are set for Tuesday morning.
