Rescuers Sling Some Shad

Video will be available shortly.

They protect and serve, but Sunday that motto was more like grab and throw.

It was called the Top Gun Shad Sling, and its just what its name says. Police officers, fire fighters and rescue personnel all took turns grabbing a fish, and flinging it to see just who could fling the farthest. The event is sort of a kick-off to the Grifton Shad Festival, and according to Police Chief Warren Morrisette, anyone can do it when the festival officially opens to the public.

The longest throw Sunday was over 116 feet. You can get your chance to sling a shad. The Shad Festival will have events starting Monday and lasting all week until April 17th.
