As Pope John Paul II is laid to rest, one county in eastern Carolina is witnessing the birth of its own Catholic community.
Father Mike Langell and Brother Virgil Siefker are members of Glenmary Home Missions out of Cincinnati, Ohio, and they are working to start a Catholic church in Bertie County, which the area has never had.
Since December, they have been holding mass at Windsor United Methodist Church until the community has enough money to build their own.
