State Representative Thomas Wright will stand trial on criminal fraud charges in March.
Wake County Judge Judge Henry Hight set the March 3 trial date on Monday. Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby said he wanted the case tried in a timely manner and before the scheduled May 6 primary, in which Wright could seek re-election.
Wright was indicted in December on six felonies. The Wilmington Democrat is accused of illegally obtaining or misusing more than $350,000 in campaign donations, loans and charitable money.
Wright also faces an ethics investigation in the Legislature and could be removed from office.
