It's creating major delays on a major highway, but officials say it’s for your safety. Transportation crews are widening Highway 43 in Pitt and Craven Counties by three feet on each side and are adding a turn lane in areas that need them most. However, they are doing it along nearly 22 miles of road, from Bells Fork in Greenville all the way to Vanceboro in Craven County. Traffic engineers say a wider road means less chance of people running off the road and will help reduce the likelihood of rear end collisions. Unfortunately the construction may be here for a while, because it is slated for an October 1 completion date.
