Chief Victim of ID Theft Again

Video will be available shortly.

The city of Havelock's fire chief, Ray Zaccardelli, was recently a victim of identity theft for the second time. The chief says about three weeks ago he was contacted by American Express, confirming his new account, which Zaccardelli says he never opened. Soon after that he was contacted by Verizon, seeking payment for several cell phones that were recently ordered in his name. The chief says at this point he has no idea how someone got his information. He says back in the 1980s, his birth certificate was stolen when he was a victim of identity theft then. The chief's latest case is currently under investigation. Authorities recommend paying close attention to all personal information before throwing it away. Police also recommend investing in a shredder to destroy information you don't want getting in the wrong hands.
