It was a somber ceremony in Beaufort County Monday afternoon, to remember the children who died because of abuse in North Carolina last year.

Members of several non-profit organizations, including the Beaufort-Hyde County Partnership for Children, gathered at the Beaufort County Government building in Washington for a candle light vigil.

The vigil was held to remember 30 children who died as a result of child abuse in 2004. Beaufort County commissioners even signed a proclamation declaring the month of April "Child Abuse Awareness" month in Beaufort County.
