Pig Cooking Festival Underway

A tasty event to help area charities got underway Friday night in the Carteret County town of Newport with the opening ceremony of the 27th annual Newport Pig Cooking.

The pig cooking features music, rides, and of course, great barbecue. Competitors will cook nearly 80 pigs. Judging is Saturday morning.

The event, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for non-profit agencies, takes place at the Newport Town Park.
