Warning for Teens Who Go to Tanning Beds

There's a legal age for many things, driving, voting, drinking, smoking and soon indoor tanning may be added to that list. The World Health Organization is taking on the $5 billion a year tanning industry. W.H.O. says tanning beds could be responsible for a skin cancer epidemic in the future because teens love to tan. One study at the University of Colorado found more than 2 million teens go tanning. Tanning salon owners we talked to pointed out North Carolina already requires parental permission for those under 18 and that their workers must be certified to operate the beds. Health officials are concerned because most salons use bulbs in their tanning beds that let off a significant amount of U.V. rays, something that's been linked with the development of skin cancer.
