A Beaufort County man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after leading lawmen on a chase through a canal. Authorities say 24-year-old Remone Sherrod attempted to escape arrest by bailing out of his vehicle off Highway 99 in Washington County and wading through a nearby canal. After being captured, Sherrod was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. The charges stem from an early incident in Tyrrell County where he's accused of firing a gun at an unidentified female.
