A regional television network that carries major league baseball and collegiate sports in North Carolina has won a fight with Time Warner Inc.
An arbitrator with the Federal Communications Commission ruled
in favor of the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
The arbitrator says Time Warner deliberately discriminated
against MASN because it wanted to protect and promote sports
coverage on its own regional network, News 14 Carolina.
Time Warner must carry MASN on terms selected by the arbitrator
unless an appeal is filed, which Time Warner said it intends to do.
MASN says the arbitrator is expected to review plans from both
companies and determine which better represents a fair market rate.
Time Warner said it believes the bulk of customers shouldn't
have to absorb costs of programming that appeal only to a few.
