Name Has Been Decided Upon for New Jail

A decision has been made as to what to name the new Pamlico County jail. It will simply be the Pamlico County Law Enforcement Center.

Ground breaking for this new facility will take place April 8. Monday night, commissioners rejected a proposal to name the center after Roger Fulford, a county deputy killed in the line of duty, after suggestions that the memory of his death could spur racial tension in the community.

However, a memorial will be constructed inside the foyer of the facility to honor fallen deputy Fulford.
